AVOIDANCE TRAINING

Avoidance Training deals with a withdrawal of self that is as instinctive in virtual gameplay as it can be in the experience of sharing the small space of an elevator. The objective of the game is to avoid eye contact with the characters on the screen for the duration of the ride. Seemingly commercializing these self-imposed strategies, this first-person game uses eye-tracking technology to control the player's camera, transforming avoidance from a distracted instinct into a skill.

The game was developed in Unity and used eye-tracking technology to map coordinates into the gameplay.

WAIT

Wait is a performance piece in which 5 individuals occupy a public space and recreate a large version of the Apple wait cursor. They bring together 5 pie-shaped pieces of cardboard, painted to mimic the trademark beachball image, and they move in a circle. These performances have taken place in a variety of public spaces, ranging from a large public library to a pedestrian bridge over the Mississippi.

These humorous performances played with the idea of setting the physical world in a state of idleness while framing the environment as a large computer screen. The wait cursor is associated with malfunction or idleness, which is sometimes followed by a loss of informations.

| | | | | | was an interactive installation for an all-night arts festival - Northern Spark Festival in Minneapolis, MN.

In this piece, I was interested in mitigating the experience of 2 disparate video projections, one featuring dramatic or violent imagery and one featuring more mundane or banal actions or scenes. These two videos are projected on the exterior of a space. A viewer sits in this space and vertical portions of each montage stream into the room and are projected on the interior walls. These narrow strips of light are not entirely readable; they are transformed into movement, color, and light.
